Who are we really as Nigerians? Odunowo

Who are we really as Nigerians?

Are you truly a Christian because of your belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ, or are you simply following the religion because your ancestors were colonized by Europeans? Similarly, are you a Muslim because of your faith in Allah, or because your parents were colonized by Arabs? Let’s not debate religion in terms of our geographical location, because the truth is that our beliefs are not solely determined by our ancestors’ conquerors.

Consider this: if your ancestors had been colonized by the Chinese, you might now find yourself kneeling in front of a Buddha statue. So before pretending to know God, it’s important to first demonstrate that you are a good human being. And how can you do that? Through your actions and behavior.

Being a good human being means showing kindness and empathy towards others, helping those in need, being honest and trustworthy, and treating others with respect. It means getting involved in charitable activities or volunteering to demonstrate your commitment to making the world a better place.

Being a good person is not about the religion you follow, but how you treat others and the positive impact you have on the world. It’s about consistently making positive choices and treating others the way you would like to be treated.

So, let’s shift the focus from religion to humanity. Let’s talk about what it means to be a good human being and how we can all strive to be better people, regardless of our religious beliefs.

The important thing to remember is that being a good person is an ongoing process of self-improvement and reflection. It’s about constantly striving to be kinder, more empathetic, and more compassionate towards others. It’s about making a positive impact on the world and leaving it a better place than we found it.

So, whether you identify as a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist, or something else entirely, let’s come together to focus on what unites us as human beings: our capacity for goodness and kindness. Let’s work towards being better people and creating a more compassionate and loving world for all. That’s the true essence of being a good human being.
