Together as Nigerians would achieve greater things!
When the majority of people talk about the police in Nigeria, it’s unfortunately often for not so good reasons. The efforts and sacrifices of the hardworking good policemen are not always appreciated enough, overshadowed by the actions of a few bad eggs. However, amidst this negative perception, there are exceptional officers who are dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities. One such exceptional officer is CSP Okpaghoro Christy, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Igbeba police station in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.
Before CSP Okpaghoro Christy’s arrival, Ijebu Ode was a hotbed of criminal activities, including cult gang fights, petty theft, kidnapping, and senseless robbery. However, under her leadership, the situation took a remarkable turn. Throughout her tenure, there was not a single case of gang wars, petty theft, kidnapping, or robbery reported in the area. This astonishing feat was unparalleled in the history of the divisional headquarters, and it spoke volumes of CSP Okpaghoro Christy’s exceptional abilities as a police officer.
As a curious believer in the exceptional abilities of Nigerians , I was compelled to investigate how CSP Okpaghoro Christy was able to achieve such remarkable results. What I discovered was a police officer with a different strategy for policing and a keen understanding of the area she served. CSP Okpaghoro Christy implemented a meticulous timetable of events and led teams for surveillance operations most nights. She stationed her hardworking police officers in strategic positions across the town and dispersed people of interest in areas susceptible to hoodlums. Her proactive approach also led to the interception of a suspected group that had come from Delta State to Ijebu Ode with no particular mission. Thanks to CSP Okpaghoro Christy and her team, this group was easily dispersed, preventing any potential criminal activity.
Despite CSP Okpaghoro Christy’s incredible achievements, the sad reality was that she was scheduled to retire by the 31st of December, 2023. Losing such a fine and exceptional police officer would undoubtedly be a great loss to the force. As a concerned citizen, I felt it was imperative to highlight the exceptional work of CSP Okpaghoro Christy and advocate for the utilization of her experience and knowledge within the Nigerian Police Force. Most especially now that our country is having several security challenges I strongly urged the Inspector General to find a way to ensure that her expertise could continue to benefit the force, even after her retirement.
CSP Okpaghoro Christy’s story is a testament to the fact that there are dedicated and exceptional police officers making a positive impact in their communities. It is crucial for their efforts to be recognized and appreciated, as they are the ones who make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and security of the people they serve. I hope that CSP Okpaghoro Christy’s legacy will continue to inspire other officers to strive for excellence and work towards creating safer and more secure communities across Nigeria. Her story also serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting and valuing the hardworking men and women in law enforcement who are committed to upholding the peace and security of our society.
