OGUN 2019: THE 2011 PAST QUESTION

OGUN 2019: THE 2011 PAST QUESTION. For those who have successfully prepared for examinations at any level before, they can attest to the importance of past questions, especially if appropriately studied. In 2011 when power was to change hands in Ogun State after OGD successfully ruled the State for 8 years, a political tsunami erupted.

OGD was a champion in the Southwest and Nigerian PDP Governor whose government was felt across the State and he was determined to hand over power to an Ogun Westerner. The journey started from searching for the appropriate candidate which finally favoured Prince Gboyega Nasir ISIAKA (GNI). There was a fallout after the strongest party in Nigeria cracked from Ogun State and two parallel primaries produced different candidate from PDP. After all efforts at reconciling the two factions failed, the faction loyal to Governor Daniel moved over 80% of the party structures to PPN while the strong minority stayed back in PDP.

OGD aimed the Ogun East Senatorial ticket then as many of his diehard followers had wanted but his determination to install a successor at all cost made him drop his ambition unlike the present situation where Governor Amosun holds on to the APC Senatorial ticket of Ogun Central while he moved 90% of his structures from APC to APM.

A sitting governor, with thousands of appointees, 99.9% of State elected officers and unrestricted access to the State money in renting crowds is not expected to mobilize lean crowd but in actual facts, that could not transform into winning elections as the people really wanted another government just like we are tired of anything Amosun, APM or APC in Ogun State today.

Today, it is funny that Governor Amosun’s Tax boy anointed to be the next Governor of Ogun State on the platform of APM, AbduKabiru Adekunle Akinlade has failed to study the past questions from the ADC candidate, prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI). The questions are;

  1. Why did PPN come third in 2011 despite spending the highest amount of money with unbeatable campaign materials like buses, posters, banners, jingles and intimidating crowd at every rally?
  2. Why did PPN fail woefully at the polls as opposed to maximum crowds at campaign grounds?
  3. Why did PPN lose in 2011 despite tagging OGD as running “Government of Billboards” by Prof Wole Soyinka?
  4. Why was OGD, the peoples governor, unable to cajole voters as he did to mammoth crowds at rallies to vote for his candidates in PPN?
  5. OGD never maltreated Ogun people, a section of the State, workers and students like Amosun but why did his overnight party fail to win in 2011? Today, majority of Amosun’s supporters are worse of as a result of neglect and exclusion, which people will vote for his APM?
  6. OGD established TRACE, Gateway Holdings, OGROMA, OGUGRADS, First University of Education in Nigeria, first polytechnic in Ogun West, 5 stadia across the State, paid bursary to students all through his tenure, grant local and foreign scholarships to students at graduate and postgraduate levels, started Voluntary Teaching Scheme, established Ogun Free Trade Zones among many other new initiatives which employed thousands of Ogun State youth and developed Sports like no other.

OGD never seized Local Government allocations and never opposed Local Government autonomy like Amosun who has paralyzed Local Government in Ogun State. During OGD era, Local Government chairmen were commissioning projects across Ogun State, tarring Trunc C roads, creating drainage systems, sinking boreholes, engaging PAP staff and our rural communities were feeling the presence of Government but today, these things are nowhere to be found just because Amosun wants to install his boy at all cost.

The big question is, how will Amosun be able to win election in Ogun State with all the maltreatments meted against Ogun State people, youth, students, workers and electorates with APM which is unknown to Ogun people?

Ogun State people cannot even forget all we have been suffering and vote for Amosun’s party now. Today, 57 vehicles were distributed across the 20 LGs and LCDAs but no ambulances, school buses, utility vehicles, road tarring vehicles have ever been considered appropriate for our people in the last 7 years, are Ogun State people fools? Billions of Naira wasted on funding APM campaign will provide jobs for many jobless graduates, equip our dead hospitals, buy drugs to our empty clinics, pay bursary of students, take many hawking children back to school, revive some communities electricity, make our dry taps run again and so on. Why will Amosun keep our money in his vault for all the while all to start spending it on campaigns for his APM? In Ogun State, we have decided to chase away AMOSUN with his shadows, so help us God as we deliver maximum votes to GNI of ADC for a life more abundant. Triple A has refused to learn a thing from the past question in his possession.
