For years, popular comedian Klint Da Drunk has based not only his stage name but entire career on the notion that he is a chronic alcoholic. Unknown to some, the iconic comedian does not take alcohol due to medical reasons.
He told Saturday Beats that there is a very serious repercussion if he ignores the medical condition and take alcohol no matter how little it is. “I do not take alcohol. It is bad for my health and it is a medical condition. If I take half a glass of any kind of alcohol, I would have a splitting headache for three days except I take very strong pain relievers which I avoid using because they could become addictive or destroy someone’s liver or kidney. I am able to portray the drunk character so perfectly because I am good at acting. It is the same way Segun Arinze could kill so perfectly in the movie ‘Black Arrow’, it is the same way Patience Ozokwor can be so good at playing a wicked woman’s part in a movie that people actually think she is wicked in reality,” he said.
Born Afamefuna Klint Igwemba, the humour merchant acknowledged that he had been away from the entertainment scene for a while and gave reasons for the intentional hiatus. “I know a lot of people have been asking why I withdrew from the entertainment scene for a while and the answer is simple. If you are always on people’s faces all the time, a time would come when you would lose your value. In entertainment, we call it ‘see finish’. So when you do some reasonable gigs, you withdraw again. When you come out again, the kind of comments you would hear is, ‘so he is still alive?’ When you are done with your performance, those same people would say, ‘Wow! This guy is good’. It is at that moment that they would realise that I actually never really left; I only went back to the drawing board. That is the idea,” he said.
Aside from comedy and acting, the multi-talented comedian is also known to be a good singer but he told Saturday Beats that he would never pursue a career in music. “I never wanted to be a musician even though I did a song with Mr. Raw, I did the song with him as a friend. I love music a lot and people did not know that I produced the original version of the song, ‘Obodo’. At the end of the day, music is not my calling. I can go to the studio and do a lot of things with people but I cannot be a musician. I could do something with someone again then I would relax, then years later, I would do another song again. I do not think it means that I am wasting the talent God gave me. I am still active in acting,” he said.
