AATSG Condemns Adamawa APC Court Ruling
The Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organisation, AATSG, has condemned the ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Yola that cancelled the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.
The court ruled on Friday that the APC flouted its rules and provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of the Adamawa governorship primary on May 27 and 28.
The condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the national chairman of the organisation, Otunba Abayomi Odunowo.
According to the Group, the ruling was not handed down in good faith as the judge didn’t take into consideration the need for gender equality and more women participation in our national politics situation in the country ahead of the 2023 election.
The statement further stated that it was undemocratic for the judge to cancel the election without ordering a special rerun thereby disenfranchising millions of APC supporters in the state.
AATSG therefore called for a speedy appeal to the judgement to right the justice miscarriage done in the ruling.
The statement reads in part, “This judgement is unfortunate. The ruling has effectively disenfranchised millions of Adamawa people that want to vote for APC.
“It is wrong for so many reasons. This is the first time a woman would beat six men in an election in Adamawa and only for the election to be nullified.
“We condemn the ruling and like the counsel to the APC candidate said, it should be appealed immediately. And the appeal should be speedily dispensed with.”
Another issue really with the primaries was noticed in one Local Government and this ordinarily should have been cancelled according and the remaining results used, how can it be justifiable for you to cancel all other other Local government results that had no problems because of one local government. I appeal to all women in Adamawa state to rise up against this injustice as senator Aishatu Ahmed benani has done what no other woman has ever achieved in Nigerian politics and she is on her way to making history as the first female Governor in Nigeria, this injustice cannot stand
Senator Aishatu Ahmed had at the primaries made history by beating six other male aspirants, to become winner of the primary. She was accordingly declared the ticket bearer.
His closest rival in the primary, Nuhu Ribadu, however faulted the primary and headed to court to ask that it be nullified. We expect the leadership of the party to take punitive actions against the party member that has caused this current uncertainty in APC Adamawa governorship elections.
