Al- Makura Joins AATSG Board of Trustees
Former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has been appointment as a member Board of Trustees of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group, AATSG, to represent North Central.
The occasion which took place in Abuja had in attendance the national leadership of the organisation.
In his remarks the national chairman of the Group, Otunba Abayomi Odunowo said the appointment was made after considering the experience of Almakura both as a businessman and a politician.
He said the senator has proved over the years that he is a worthy ambassador of Nigeria and a personality with requisite qualities to be at the forefront of any campaign in the nation’s quest to attain sustainable development.
Odunowo further stated that the task of electing the All Progressives Party, APC, presidential candidate Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu requires inclusion of eminent leaders like Almakura hence his choice to lead the front from North Central.
The national chairman reiterated the position of AATSG that Tinubu is the best candidate that can give all Nigerians a sense of belonging anywhere they find themselves in the country regardless of their political affiliations.
He submits that to get the country out of the current economic doldrums, Nigeria needs a president with proven track record in understanding how to engage the right minds for the right positions saying with Tinubu’s performance in Lagos while serving as governor, his presidency will be up to the task of making Nigeria work for all.
He said, “Senator Tanko Almakura is being challenged today with this appointment because we know his track record while he served as governor of Nasarawa state. He shares many attributes with Asiwaju Tinubu.
“His performance as governor of his state stands out for all to see. Calling him to be a member Board of Trustees of AATSG, is a call to further service for the fatherland.
“With the way things are currently in the country, we need a president like Tinubu next year. A president that has a blueprint of what he wants to do and has the ability to identify the professionals to help achieve his objectives.
“He has done it before, first in the private sector, just like Senator Almakura did too, and later in public sector as governor of Lagos State.
“To help in our mobilisations efforts to make it happen, Senator Al-Makura will be of immense influence especially in the north central and indeed across the country.
“Though there are numerous organisations declaring support for Tinubu, AATSG stands out in the sense that we are scouring the country looking for the right people to help this course and it really gladdens our hearts that Senator Almakura is a member of our BOT”.
The AATSG National and FCT Present during the event where very excited with speech of Senator AL- Makura amongst them are Hon Zara Bukar, Alhaji HF Dauda, the National Woman Leader and National Organizing Secretary respectively, the National Youth Leader Adedayo Adeyemi who spoke with historic perspective on the achievements of senator Al- Makura when he was a governor of Nasarawa state, his achievements as the founder of new Nasarawa and his disposition as regards tribalism and religion. Also present is the FCT treasurer Falmata Alamai, and Shafat Mu’azu.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Tanko Almakura expressed gratitude to the organisation for the gesture and promised to do everything humanly possible to ensure emergence of Tinubu as president come next year.
