APC Government appointees takes over party in Ogun

Titilayo Adegenro. Abeokuta

The political calculations in Ogun state have reached dangerous levels which would possible desentigrate the party of care is not taken. Reports coming from most of the local government is absolutely disturbing.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting was to prevent the internal wranglings in the party from escalating and to correct the impression that Gov Abiodun had already given ‘automatic tickets’ to some aspirants.

At the meeting, the governor was said to have ‘disowned’ some ‘ready-made lists’ prepared by some factional leaders, assuring all aspirants of a free and fair process.

But, Gov Abiodun’s insistence on a free and fair candidate selection process has sent shivers down the spines of those parading themselves as the Ogun APC ‘feudal lords’, our correspondent was told.

The questions on everybody lips is who is responsible for the party candidates selection, screening and nomination?

Haven’t covered political desk for over two decades I believe this is the absolute role of the party headed by Alhaji Yemi Sanusi, but what we are seeing in Ogin state is that the party has be Relegated in this process while the appointees of Governor Dapo Abiodun has taking over with a dangerous script that might likely diatablize the party in Ogun state if care is not taken.

From the look of things it appears the Governor Dapo Abiodun is politically myopic as his government is dangerously on the verge of total brouhaha.

From his local government ikenne there is already agitation on the process that selected Jamiu the current local government chairman as the preferred candidate by the Governor’s appointees.

Many of the aspirants rejected the process which was against democratic rules. Also in ijebu ode many of the aspirants where not invited by the screening committee that selected the current caretaker chairman Olugbile as the chosen candidate, Odogbolu is currently at a stand still as the legal adviser of the party Barister Abayomi Siwonikun has rejected the whole process and they have rescheduled the meeting to another date, however several petitions have been sent from odogbolu over the undemocratic process that was used in the selection of chancellor in several wards of Odogbolu.

In Abeokuta South, party leaders are being accused of plots of going for the ‘highest bidders’.
Some aggrieved party members, led by one Balogun Ololade, had earlier protested that leaders in Abeokuta South were making efforts to ‘sell’ the tickets to money bags, insisting on direct primaries.

Our correspondent learned that almost all the 236 wards of Ogun State have one issue or the order over who represents the party in the forthcoming elections.
In Ipokia Ward 1, an APC councillorship aspirant, Qudus Orobiyi, was reported to have settled for a ticket in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We are calling on the APC leadership to be very careful in their reckless activities that failed to be in tandem with the stipulated laws and constitution of the APC not to forget the Zamfara catastrophe in a hurry,”

The APC in Ogun State is made up of many political heavyweights, including new defectors like former Governor Gbenga Daniel; former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole; a three-time governorship candidate, Gboyega Isiaka; former Deputy Governor, Salmot Badru and others.

At the moment, the party is reportedly polarised between those who see themselves as the original owners of the party and those seen as hijackers and newcomers.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that some pioneer members of the party are not pleased with the fact that those who just joined the APC are the once currently controlling the party with no regards to the party executives.
