COVID 19 infections are increasing FGN, why Re-open the schools, Samson.
No doubt! COVID 19 has slowdown our children’s education, but I want you all to know that lockdown is by far better than knockdown! Also, social distancing is better than a mass burial, which will not and never be our portion. Amen!
As students of primary secondary and tertiary institutions across the country resume for Academic activities today Monday 18, 2021, we should take a look at the latest figures As at today 1,444 COVID 19 cases Recoded. Lagos State Alone is 900!… This is why A group, Named Re-awaken initiative of Nigeria (RAIN), has Voiced out that the rising cases of Covid-19 could lead to devastating consequences on our Campuses if resumption is poorly regulated. RAIN stated this in a statement, signed by its National Coordinator, Prince Adewale Samson who also is the Lagos State Chairman of All Grand Alliance Party (AGAP).
Prince Adewale Samson, after a virtual conference meeting. While they tasked both federal and state governments on the Need provide facilities for virtual learning and also plead with the government to help subsidize internet DATA for our children, they urged the Government to deploy health personnel to schools to handle Emergencies, in view of the raging second wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Rather than the suspension of school resumption, Samson, noted that the federal and state governments should have provided hand Sanitizers and nose masks to students and staff, compulsory testing of all students and staff and also organized a well-Coordinated phased resumption in a way that could prevent Overcrowding in the school environment. RAIN is of the opinion that the the government should set up of Isolation
Centers in all local government areas, as major Requirement for schools resumption. It is discomforting that many [state] governments have not gone beyond merely issuing statements encouraging schools to observe Covid-19 protocols. In this situation, the hapless students, pupils, and staff are literally left to their fate as adequate safety measures are not put in place by the federal and state governments.
Samson said the primary duty of any Government is the security and the wellbeing of the citizens.
What I expect is for the Government at all levels to regard Covid-19 as a national emergency which would demand that affected sectors are provided with all the necessary support that
They need to cope with the impact of the pandemic.
At the minimum, the government should consider providing facilities for virtual classes,
Deploying health and security personnel to Schools to handle emergencies, providing hand sanitizers and Masks to students and staff, providing testing facilities for compulsory testing of all students and staff.
Samson also commends the Governor of Lagos State for all the measures put in place but more is highly needed, as he commends the University of Ilorin and a few other institutions that Have properly articulated their phased resumption plans. The education sector embraces the largest percentage of Citizens–from kindergarten to postgraduate classes. It is a sector that is most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the Consequences of poorly regulated resumption plans amidst the Rising cases of Covid-19 may be a big blow to us all because, from reports reaching us, we don’t have enough space and oxygen”
