CAN raises the alarm over ‘distribution’ of COVID-19 almajiris across Nigeria

Most of the Almajiris sent to Kaduna, Jigawa and Sokoto states from Kano, CAN claimed, were carriers of the deadly Covid-19 virus.

In statement by its Chairman, Rev. Dr. Ndubuisi John, the Christian body wondered the rationale behind the act bearing in mind the health and security implications on the recipient states.

The statement reads in part: “In as much as we commensurate with Kano State over the loss of their loved ones to mysterious deaths and COVID-19, yet we still want to know what in the world could be the cogent excuse for Kano state to permit trailers loaded with human beings which many of them were Coronavirus carriers to leave the state boarders and crossing over sister states in Nigeria to penetrate their cities.

“Could this be a palliative measure to decongest the Coronavirus from suffocating its orbits? Can any blind man in Nigeria deny hearing the horrifying jingles of COVID-19 in Nigeria and global wise?

“Can the deaf and dumb men and women deny seeing the masses in the streets of the cities of Nigeria putting on face masks, washing of hands and using sanitizers?

“Would the elites claim ignorant of the Federal Government’s efforts in proffering measures in combating this horrible and deadly virus in the country?

“Therefore, I do seek for evidential – admissible reasons beyond reasonable doubts that will justify Kano state for distributing Almajiris which many of them were corona virus carriers to infect other innocent citizens in various states of the country.

“Most of the Almajiris sent to Sokoto and Jigawa from Kano State were positive to the virus. Those also sent to Kaduna state were also carriers of the deadly virus. Two days ago, Kogi State was lamenting over a trailer load of the Almajiris sent to camp in their land. This has raised a very serious alarm.”

Continuing, the statement says: “On the May 15, 2020, a national daily carried the news of an intercepted trailer load with cows and Almajiris from Kano to Lagos State. And who knows how many of them were positive to the virus. Imagine such a havoc it would have caused if they had entered the city of Lagos without the security intervention at the Lagos border.

“Oh fellow Nigerians, where is patriotism? Therefore, I plead for a return to the theory of objectivity and balance. A return to life sanctity, equity, justice, and fairness which is the hallmark of a reasonable and stable society.”
